Waiting List Policy

All young people wishing to join 1st Chalfont St Giles Scout Group must first be added to our waiting list, which is managed through Online Scout Manager (OSM).

Due to the popularity of Scouting locally and the number of volunteer leaders available, places within sections are limited.

Key points to note

  • The waiting list is not a queue. Joining the waiting list shows interest in joining our Scout Group but does not guarantee a place in order of registration.
  • Places are allocated based on a number of factors, including volunteer availability and the needs of the group.

How places are prioritised

  1. Volunteer involvement
Priority may be given to young people whose parents or carers are willing to volunteer as Scout Leaders, Trustees or members of the Fireworks Committee. As a volunteer-led charity, additional adult support is essential to allowing more young people to take part in Scouting.
  2. Progression through the group
Existing members moving between sections (for example from Beavers to Cubs) will normally be prioritised to continue their Scouting journey within the group.
  3. Young people already involved in Scouting
Young people already attending another Scout Group who move into the local area may be prioritised where appropriate.
  4. Siblings of existing members
Siblings of current members may be prioritised to support family involvement within the group.
  5. General waiting list allocation
Where places remain available, they will be offered fairly and appropriately within the section age ranges.

Final decisions

The allocation of places and offers of membership are at the discretion of the Group Lead Volunteer and leadership team, based on the needs and capacity of the group at the time.

Our approach is designed to be fair, transparent and consistent with Scouts’ values and equality principles.
