Constitution and Governance

1st Chalfont St Giles Scout Group is a registered charity and operates in accordance with the rules and policies of The Scouts.

The Group is managed by a Trustee Board, which is responsible for the governance, finance, property, safety and administration of the charity.

The Trustee Board works alongside the Group Lead Volunteer and volunteer leadership teams to help ensure Scouting is delivered safely, legally and effectively for young people within the local community.

Group Scout Council

The Group Scout Council is the membership body of the charity and includes the Group’s volunteers, trustees, parents and carers of young people within the Group.

The Group Scout Council meets annually at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to:

  • approve the Annual Report and Accounts
  • adopt the Group constitution
  • appoint trustees and key governance roles
  • review the previous year’s activities and achievements

Trustee Board

The Trustee Board is responsible for overseeing the governance and administration of the Group.

This includes:

  • finance and budgeting
  • risk management and safety oversight
  • property and equipment management
  • insurance and compliance
  • supporting the development of Scouting locally

Trustees are volunteers who work together to help ensure the Scout Group remains sustainable, safe and well managed.

  • The Scouts Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR)
  • Charity Commission requirements
  • The Group’s adopted constitution
  • Relevant Scout policies and UK legislation
