Waiting List Policy
In order to join the group, all young people must be added to the waiting list, which is managed through Online Scout Manager (OSM), allowing the Leadership team to monitor it easily.
Key Points to Note:
- The waiting list is not a queue: Placement on the list does not guarantee automatic membership in the order of registration. It reflects interest in joining Chalfont St Giles Scout Group.
- Places are allocated based on specific priorities, not by how long someone has been on the list.
Prioritisation Criteria:
- Parental Involvement:
Priority will be extended to young people whose parents commit to taking on a Leadership, Trustee, or Fireworks Committee member role within the group. This reflects the vital role volunteers play in the successful running of our group. - Progression within the Group:
Existing members of the group will be given priority as they move up through the sections (e.g., from Beavers to Cubs). The only exception is if a young person needs to switch meeting nights due to other commitments. In such cases, they will be placed on the waiting list and subject to the standard process. - Existing Scouts Moving into the Area:
If a young person is already a member of The Scout Association in another district and has recently moved to the Chalfont St Giles area, they may be given priority for a place in our group. - Siblings of Current Members:
Siblings of current members will be considered for priority placement, helping to support family engagement within our Scout Group. - Age-Based Allocation from the General Waiting List:
For young people without prior ties to the group, places will be allocated based on age within the specific section’s defined age range. Selections will be made in a fair and non-discriminatory manner.
Final Decision:
The decision to offer membership to any young person rests solely with the Group Scout Leader. Please note:
- There is no automatic right to membership, regardless of the length of time spent on the waiting list.
- No appeals process is available for those not offered a place.
- This policy is aligned with the principles of equality legislation and The Scout Association’s Equal Opportunities Policy, ensuring fairness for all.
